Who I Am

Joy Hegarty

As the founder of Walk On Therapy, I offer Physiotherapy, Hippotherapy and Equine Assisted Physiotherapy for children of all abilities.

I have over 30 years of experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist in the NHS in Northern Ireland, and was an advanced clinical practitioner in paediatrics. I have worked in special schools, acute hospitals and community clinics. My particular area of interest lies in the treatment of cerebral palsy, and I have completed the Paediatric Bobath course.

In 2021, I completed Post Graduate training accredited by Ulster University, which was the first UK Allied Health Professional pilot course in Equine Facilitated Therapy and Hippotherapy.

I am a member of the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP), and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Equine Activities (ACPEA).

Since childhood, I have always been passionate about horses and I have volunteered with Riding for the Disabled. I continue to develop my equine skills and knowledge, whether it is improving my own riding, caring for horses or training ponies for Hippotherapy.
